    Dear Parents,

I hope your child’s school year is off to a great start.  We are pleased with the energy and enthusiasm we have seen from our students.

One topic of conversation that can temper energy and enthusiasm is COVID.  COVID is obviously still with us, so I wanted to take a moment to let you know what the current COVID rules are at the NPCSD.

In order to make sure we are giving you the most current and accurate information, we are following the guidance of the Ulster County Department of Health.  I am sure you agree that not only must we follow the most current guidance but we must also follow consistent guidelines in all four of our school buildings.  So, here are the guidelines that we will all follow:

If a child is not feeling well and they are experiencing COVID-like symptoms they will be sent home. We strongly encourage you to have your child tested for COVID.

When a child who has been sent home stops experiencing symptoms and has been fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication, they may return to school.

If a child is sent home, we will NOT be requiring a negative COVID test or an alternate diagnosis for the child  to return to school.

If a student tests positive for COVID with a home test or in a doctor’s office, we request that proof of this positive test be provided to the nurse’s office.

Students who test positive for COVID must isolate for 5 days, from symptom onset or positive test if symptom-free. Please see the CDC Guidance if you have questions and contact your medical provider.

Days spent in isolation due to a positive COVID test will not count toward the 20-day attendance limit outlined in our updated district attendance policy.

These are the current rules that we will follow in all buildings.  Obviously, we will pay close attention to any changes in the guidelines provided to us by local, state, or federal health organizations.

If you have any questions about any of these guidelines, please let me know.  I wish you and your family a safe and healthy school year.

    Regards,

    Stephen Gratto - Superintendent
